October (mid- to late-spring in the Great Southern Ocean) offers an adventurous time to visit the Peninsula when you see Antarctica at its most undisturbed form – starting to break free of winter and entering the breeding season.
Temperatures may still be coder and polar ice may still be breaking up with some areas accessed with limited access in some areas. But these cold temperatures can offer the most impressive icescapes, pristine snow and breathtaking scenery. Wildlife may not be as plentiful as later in the season, but it is a good time to see the penguins mating with fascinating courtship displays and penguins at work building their nests.
